Silva Bay Resort & Marina announces the redevelopment of Silva Bay

GABRIOLA ISLAND, B.C. – We are excited to announce the redevelopment of Silva Bay! Our highly anticipated resort development is now getting underway.

Our project will contribute to the community of Gabriola Island and enliven Silva Bay to its full glory. We are honoured to add value to a piece of land already rich in history. At Silva Bay, our professionals have been carefully selected for every stage of our project, to ensure a successful, mindful and environmentally sound process.

Cleanup and construction timeline

Starting in late summer 2021, we are cleaning up the site of hazardous materials and administering environmental protection plans. The construction process for the resort and restaurant is expected to take 18-20 months to complete.

Opening date

The construction process for the resort and restaurant is expected to take 18-20 months to complete.

The opening date is to be determined once the demolition and construction timeline has been solidified.

Background

The resort and shipyards have existed on Gabriola Island for many years. In 2017, the previous restaurant and general store at the Silva Bay Marina burned down. In 2018, Silva Bay Resort and Marina Ltd., purchased the site with the intention of restoring the property that had been destroyed in the fire.

Our intention is not only to replace the restaurant and general store, but to clean up and improve upon the property with a new elegant 16 room hotel, incorporating renewed environmentally-conscious infrastructure and landscaping.

Things to look forward to

We are ecstatic to infuse the south side of the island with activity again!

–  Casually elegant hotel with 16 rooms

–  Restaurant and bar with 150+ seats

–  Grocery store of 1000 square feet

–  New marine facility

Shipyards

We’re keeping the shipyards, we value the shipyards and it has always been a part of our vision!

Our development has always included the Shipyards into our vision. This valuable piece of history is incorporated in our future.

We are doing our best to revitalize the land at Silva Bay, which includes fixing what has been neglected in the past and removing what is not safe to use.

Safety is a priority for us and our community; we are rebuilding the access road and shoreline and also demolishing the dangerous, barely used area of the shipyards to protect our residents and visitors. We love the shipyards!

Environmental

Silva Bay Resort & Marina has taken every opportunity to ensure the environment and marine habitat has been taken care of. Shoreline protection, water conservation, energy efficiency, tree protection plans and sustainable materials are just a few of the ways we aim to improve the environmental consciousness of our property. The natural environment is a priority for us.

We hire local

There will be future job opportunities for locals in both the construction phase and once the resort is in full swing.

We have hired local teams on Gabriola for our landscape architects and arborists. Our land surveyor, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, civil engineers and mechanical engineers are all island based (Nanaimo and surrounding areas). Additionally our architects, building code and electrical engineers are also from close by in Vancouver.

They have a rich knowledge of west coast culture and have designed the infrastructure and landscape to meld seamlessly with the natural elements of Silva Bay.

First Nations

We acknowledge that we live, work and play on the shared, asserted, unceded traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation of the Coast Salish People. We do our best to remain good stewards of this precious land which we all share and love.

Community

We love being a part of the Silva Bay community and want to hear from you! Please visit our contact form to attend our information session and submit your questions/comments.

With time comes evolution. As we fondly remember the past, we are excited to evolve into the future.
